Why we built the pool

Like many other working farms in this country we have had to diversify over the years in order to stay farming. We felt passionately that more people, especially older people, would choose to swim if they had more accessible and higher quality facilities. Thankfully it turned out to be true, some of our most loyal swimmers are in their nineties!

A local pool for local people

We were inspired by using a similar pool where we enjoyed a fabulous swimming experience with our children and still have very happy memories to this day. We then applied for planning permission to convert a redundant building which had housed the original milking parlour on the farm, to an indoor  swimming pool to let out on private hire.

It was always our intention to let the pool on an exclusive-use basis with very small numbers. Our vision was very much ‘a local pool for local people’ and to give those who were uncomfortable with public pool experiences an opportunity to swim in very different surroundings.

The build

We built the pool ourselves over a three year period using specialist contractors where required and using high quality materials. July 2011 saw the completion of the project and Ashley Wood Pool was born!

The finish line

We are very proud to say that the pool is now entering its twelfth year and we are honoured that it is described by some of our lovely swimmers as ‘one of Wiltshire’s best kept secrets’!

We would like to use this space to say very big thank you to all of our pool users. It is a pleasure to see such a huge age range deriving great enjoyment from using the pool and long may your use of the pool continue.

Happy Swimming, Kim & Mark Sully
